Personal Privacy
We firmly believe in personal privacy and open knowledge. We take your privacy as seriously as we take our own!
We will never sell or share your information with other parties, and we will try to never be annoying (no pop-up ads, no notifications other than ones you set for the games you choose to play). However, we do need to store some of your details in functional cookies on your own device, so that you can have a great experience with us. For example, we need to keep track of what languages you speak, so that we can quickly get you to the information you most want. Kamusi cookies may also preserve your recent searches, so you can easily retrace your steps - when we activate this feature, we will also provide a "clear history" option.
When you opt in by registering as a contributor, we will store information related to any words you submit through our games and tools. That is the way we can give you the rewards you earn, add your validated contributions to the data we share with the public, undo damage from malicious users, and give you the credit you deserve for helping us build the global linguistic knowledge base. We will also store information that we will not share about how to contact you, and profile information that you may choose to share, such as your country or your avatar.
From time to time we may need to send registered users e-mails about software updates or major project changes, or send you a newsletter if you subscribe, but we promise we will never spam you. If you ever want to cancel your registration, you can remove yourself and we'll never bother you again.
Otherwise, we do not keep your personal data. We keep logs of what words were searched for, in what languages, from what countries, so that we can keep improving our resources, but those records are completely stripped of any information that can identify users.
Copyright & Data Usage
We distribute our data under the most open license we can, called CC-by-nc-sa, which allows for anyone to use and share our data for non-commercial purposes, as long as they give us appropriate credit. We cannot grant open access to commercial enterprises because some of our data sources do not allow that sort of distribution. However, we can license some of the data, with proceeds used to continue Kamusi's non-profit mission - commercial entities should contact us to find out how.
We reserve the right to make use of and distribute linguistic data that we receive from the Kamusi community in any way we see fit. People who play our games or share their knowledge through our tools release any intellectual property claims to their contributions. Whenever practical, though, we will strive to give credit to our contributors.
Kamusi is constantly growing and evolving, adding new words, new languages, and new features. We welcome you to make use of what we have, and help us make it even better!
