Almost every phone is a camera these days, and for Kamusi users every phone is a dictionary as well. We plan to combine our visitors' interests in words and photographs, with tools to upload images of their physical world. More than giving firm substance to concepts that can only be roughly described in words, images submitted from around the 🌍 world will show cultural distinctions that enhance our understanding of what the same term might mean to different 👪 people. For example, a stool in Tanzania evokes this notion that might not be shared in Latvia:
We need to build in several features for users to share their photographs as illustrations for specific dictionary entries.
Upload via the "share" options of their camera. A user should have a couple of paths to attach their 🖼 picture to the right entry: (1) take a picture, then upload to the entry with a logical flow from the camera app (2) look up a word in the dictionary app, and then snap their photo right to the entry.
Geo-tagging. If the user agrees, we want to capture geographic information from their camera, so that we can pinpoint if an image of a stool is showing the notion as rendered in Latvia or Tanzania.
User permissions. A user must affirmatively assert that they own the original image and are offering it without restrictions.
Review. Spam is a fact of life. We need a procedure to send 🖼 pictures to trusted volunteers who can verify that an image meets general decency standards. Preferably, the image should be sent to someone who is registered as speaking the language for which the image is proposed.

Our biggest struggle is keeping Kamusi online and keeping it free. We cannot charge money for our services because that would block access to the very people we most want to benefit, the students and speakers of languages around the world that are almost always excluded from information technology. So, we ask, request, beseech, beg you, to please support our work by donating as generously as you can to help build and maintain this unique public resource.
